A New Beginning
Finally the day has come. Intel officially has launched the much-awaited Core 2 Duo product, which is based on the Conroe processor. Earlier we had the opportunity to see an engineering sample-core 2 Duo E6700 in a system developed by Intel. However, at present Intel’s newly developed core2Duo and Core 2 Extreme processor is available to buy. And the company finally allowed us to bring out our own independent benchmark on systems developed and configured by ourselves. Intel is going to release total five types of different processor. The first one is designed especially as a desktop processor based on the core architecture. This processor works with maximum speed for which Intel is quite known? read more...
The Core 2 Duo 6700 Processor
For long, we all have been awaiting for a better processor. Now it seems that the awaiting is over. Everything has been ready. Intel is about to take a flying start with its newly designed desktop processor, Core-2 Duo. Its efficiency has been tested in the labs and it comes up to the level of our expectation. Now, let us go through this article to know more about this new processor.
The Core 2 Duo processor like its previous avatar is designed on Intel’s 65nm fab process. But not like them, the Core 2 Duo is not just made of two chips joined together in a single package. This dual core is manufactured with about million transistors 291 transistors adjusted only in an area of 143mm.While with the same two chips, the Pentium Extreme Edition has a total 188 million transistors in area of 81 mm .The two chips together of Pentium Extreme Edition 965 has more transistors than the Core 2 Duo.
In a recent release, Intel has made it clear that, it is going to transitioning away its central processing units (CPU) production from Pentium to Core 2 Duo. But the process will not be as fast as the market requires. As a result a short in supply can be a major problem in the coming months. But, situation will improve only after more production from Intel.
